Department
Network
The department maintains three Windows 2003 servers in support
of our labs. These servers are used for security of the PC
network, network management, resource sharing, student
data and web hosting. A SunFire V440 fileserver, the heart of the UNIX
High Performance Systems (CS only
viewable webpage) provides NFS, mail and SMB services. A SunFire V240 webserver supports department web service.
Labs
The department maintains seven PC and Sun labs which are upgraded on a three-year
life cycle. All labs have networked
printers to support the classrooms. We have assembled an Information Assurance
lab and the Cyber Defense Exercise was held April 2006. In addition to the above labs, we also have a Robotics
lab, an Architecture lab, a Modeling, Simulation & Graphics lab, and a
Midshipmen Research lab.
Michelson 201 and 221 -These labs
are used exclusively for Information
Assurance and Networking classes. Both
201 and 221 has their own isolated networks
where students have the ability to learn
through hands on experience. The
hardware consists of 33 Dell microcomputers
and CISCO networking equipment in each
classroom.
Michelson 223 - This lab serves a
number of functions.
Information regarding this lab will be
available in the near future.
Michelson 300 - These labs each
contain 22 Dell microcomputers. These labs
are used exclusively for instructional
support, and the labs are networked with
100Mbps switched Ethernet, allowing access
to the Internet and all of the other
departmental resources.
Michelson 302 and Michelson 316 -
Each lab contains
20 Sun Ultra
20 M2 machines and a Sun Ultra 20 M2 faculty workstation
which is connected to a Dukane Projector for
multimedia support. These Suns
offer the ability to boot either Solaris 10
or Windows XP. Each system has
locally installed software to be used for
multiple purposes. They have the
OpenGL software to support the 2D/3D
graphics courses, as well as other software
needed for programming courses.
Michelson 303 and Michelson 392 -
